When using the Genesis add-on on Kodi on my pc, I went to the settings to change the default download folder. By default it puts in in something like 'special://userdata/addon_data/plugin.video.genesis/downloads/movies' I don't really like it saving stuff deep in the file tree for that specific plugin for that specific program. However when I tried to change it, it won't let me go any further back in the file tree than addon_data. I want to put stuff in a centralized folder with all the stuff from the other plugins and anywhere else.

Is there any way to do this? I also had a similar problem with this plugin on Kodi for Android. On android, it actually allowed me to back out of the convoluted file tree and select a folder on my extSD card.

However when I downloaded a video, it was nowhere to be found. Drivers Notebook Al51. It showed the download progress and said it completed, but when I go to play the video with Kodi or anything else it shows the folder as empty. I realize this may have something to do with Android messing up apps access to the the ExtSD card since I've had similar problems with other apps, but it seems odd that it would show it downloading but have nothing there. As far as I can tell, it didn't put it in the default folder or anywhere else. Also why would Genesis let me to the top of the file tree on android but not on PC? Any help would be appreciated.

How are you attempting to change the location of the downloads folder? Are you giving the download path by typing it there? An easier and definitive way to do this is to go into the genesis settings>Downloads>Click on Movies (or TV as the case may be).

You can also press Enter Key while you are there. The entire drive structure should open up, including the local drives as well as all the NFS, uPnP and SMB drives that you have in your network. From there it is a breeze to choose your path and click OK.

There is nothing wrong in trying to have a centralised folder. Genesis as such should not be causing this error • • • •.

Thats the thing, I'm doing it exactly as you described. When I click on Movies or TV it comes up at the default path I mentioned. When I click the up arrow at the top it will back me out one level. But it will only let me back out as far as Addon_data and then the up arrow disappears. It won't let me get all the way back to C. It also won't allow me to manually type a filepath.

It forces me to browse the file tree but limits access. I haven't had this problem with any plugin other than genesis. I'm having trouble replicating your issue. The closest I can get to it is by going through the library tab (as opposed to downloads) in Genesis settings, which does replicate the restrictions in moving around the folders that you describe.

My best guess is that some wires have gotten crossed in your genesis install. Go into Settings >Appearance >File lists and make sure everything there is selected.

I'm not 100% sure this will change things, but it may help. You'll probably have to reinstall Genesis. Before you do that, set up a trakt.tv account and install the addon (official kodi repo >programs) so that you at least don't have to manually add all your media again. I have placed the mouse curser on the path and clicked, and the next picture shows the drive structure opening up. I can browse easily into any of it, as long as I have permissions. Try re installing Genesis, as admin. Try doing it from a basic skin like Confluence, it gives minimum confusion. You should not be asked to traverse the comlplicated and intricate addon path structure at all. It should be easy and straightforward.
