For the start - I'd like to say 'thank you!' To jazzliscious for his great review:) Being not so sophisticated, I just could add some more 'user's' impressions of this extraordinary music.:) Actually, this release is the one for which I have changed my rating for at least 3 times here on discogs. It happened so that I could not get this CD for a long time.
Being somewhat GPO-interested person and his gang's acid-house as well, I was expecting too much from this release! So it was even more regretable to experience my first time as disappointment. I only noticed some catchy 90-es feeling, and a part of my mind was so unobviuosly charmed with what I've heard that after some time I decided to listen to it anew. Better for the second, but after a while I felt boring:) Now it's my third attempt - and you know, it's so cool now, being in the 'right state of mind';) For much of PTV works this, let's say, cooperation between music and a state of your mind is a must.
Try it like a trip - with much conditioning from your side and, having a prepared surrounding, you will certainly integrate a new world inside and around you! So, use this sound as helpful medium.:). Since I can't find a vinyl listing of this one I'll just submit here.
I have the two-record set and going against the grain of some of the comments I've read otherwise, I have to say these are among my favoritest of early techno traxxx. I especially love the Mistress Mix stuff. Is CLASSIC early acid house. These were not sparse, minimal Chicago acid house tracks, these were sophisticated East Coast-styled acid house tracks with lush, luxuriant production. Some of us more technically oriented peeps prefer all that jazz and glitter, and G.
P'Orridge and friends gave it to us but good. Lots of analog synth trickery, sampling the way it was meant to be done (creatively and artistically - not cheap 'sample a Hall and Oates bassline and put a 909 kick thump and hi-hat tss over it' shite), and stacked delays and digital effectology galore with the occasional 303 acid bassline every now and again. These are excellent tracks from a time when techno was a creative genre, not a sold-out mid-market commodity. If you would like to study what made techno music a new and exciting thing back when, you must check this comp out. The track listing is slightly different on the LP compilation, but most of it is the same.
10 stars - five being best. Generator Serial Number Idm.
