The issue with changing the SATA modes is they need to be enabled in the BIOS prior to OS installation; doing so after you have installed the OS will disable the PC. Windows registry is a gold mine for a computer forensics investigator. During case analysis, the registry is capable of supplying the evidence needed to.

How do I fix a corrupt registry in an upgraded version of windows 10 Home on an HP desktop Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion P6000 Series. Board: FOXCONN 2AB1 1.00 Bus Clock: 200 megahertz BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 6.02 Processor: 2.90 gigahertz AMD Athlon II X4 635 512 kilobyte primary memory cache 2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache 64-bit ready Multi-core (4 total) Not hyper-threaded Memory 4 GB I originally upgraded it last year opting to go to windows 10 from Windows 7.
All went well until recently, and for some reason the system will not get updates and tell me I have a corrupt registry. I have tried using the media to reinstall Windows 10 but it goes through all the motions and then ultimately says it can't install and will revert back to previous. This is the msg (0x8007001F - 0x2000D - the installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation) I have tried all ways to try and not lose my installed programs, etc. I am stuck in windows **** - can't get updates and can't fix anything. Any suggestions. I can't roll back to Win 7 now. Only choices left are 'Reset this PC' or 'Advanced Startup' (which will probably result in me losing all programs and files.
Any suggestions? BTW I have another Desktop and laptop with Windows 10 and they run fine. Hi and thanks so much for responding to my dilemma. Answers to your questions: 1. My computer was upgraded a year ago from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Yes, McAfee Livesafe was installed after the upgrade. I disabled it to try and repair the install.
Then I called McAfee and told them I want to uninstall it completely from my computer - they gave me a link and it is totally uninstalled now - I tried to repair the install again with same result - it goes through all the motions of looking like it will repair then comes back saying it has to revert to previous. Version 10.0 Build 10240 Windows 10 Home. The reason I started this whole procedure was all the updates that came in were failing - and then trying to reinstall and failing - all cumulative updates and more. The failing updates were kb3125217, kb3135782, kb3161102, kb3193821, kb3172729, kb3173427, kb3193821, - these keep trying to install and failing (weird that windows Defender updates successfully installed kb2267602) I downloaded the ISO and tried that from the Windows interface using setup - again it fails. I have NOT performed a clean install as of yet as I didn't want to have to reinstall everything again, but I think that's what it will come to and who knows even if that will work? Right now McAfee is still off the computer and it is using 'Windows Defender'.
I am running Malwarebytes to see if it picks up something. The computer is still operable at this stage but some things don't work right. I did write down my product key as I found that. Things I have tried are 1.
Sfc/scannow - get 'Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.“ 2. DISM.exe - get “Error: 1009 ____ The configuration registry database is corrupt.” for both scanhealth and restorehealth.
Then tried to refresh windows using ISO with option to keep my file and apps. - fails - with this msg “0x8007001F – 0x2000D ____ The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation.” 4. I have NOT tried Reset this PC or Advanced startup yet. I looked for the option to use Restore points, but alas there are none created. Any suggestions you have would be appreciated a lot. If I do have to reset this thing - do I have to reinstall all the HP stuff as well as drivers, audio, and so on? This is what I am trying to avoid.
(as an aside - I have another desktop I bought with Windows 10 already installed - no problems with it has version 10.0.14393 Windows Home and I have a laptop with Windows Enterprise with no problems) Thanks for helping!! I will leave it for now until I receive any information from you. 1. Windows 7 to Windows 10. Upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 very first release to public via upgrade through the 'reserve your copy' thing. 3 Antivirus at that time was free Avast and still ran after upgrade. No free trial that I remember - I would have uninstalled before trying any. It is telling me in Windows Update that kb3193821 is available to update - under installed updates it tells me that kb3193821 FAILED to install - it goes into this loop over and over. The last The others you mentioned I don't see anywhere. I think I am going in circles. The Win10 upgrade first became available on 29 July 2015. Was the upgrade offered & installed via Windows Update on the 29th or later?
[Just curious] 2. When did you replace Avast Free with McAfee LiveSafe? When (exact date) did you uninstall McAfee LiveSafe? Did you (a) uninstall the McAfee application AND THEN (b) download/run the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool & reboot (c) BEFORE you started to rely on Windows Defender & Firewall to protect your computer? Is MBAM still installed? What error code(s) is/are associated with the failed updates kb3193821, KB3172729, and KB3188128 according to your Update History? May I assume that 'resetting Windows Updates' per hasn't made any difference? ============================================== COMMENTS: • Chances are (99.99%) the HP computer came with a Norton (or possibly McAfee) free-trial preinstalled. Truth be told, I'm surprised that the Win10 upgrade was offered to your computer! • Your computer's missing at least a years' worth of critical security updates. The computer should NOT be connected to the internet or any local networks for extended periods (i.e., more than a minute or two) in its current state.
All business & personal data (including online banking & credit-card passwords) should be considered at-risk, if not already compromised. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) Microsoft MVP (Windows Client) since October 2002. HI Robear, Well it looks like no one can help me - As to your most recent questions you have already asked these a few times. Yes I upgraded when the upgrade was first offered when it first became available with the 'Pop up' upgrade window on my computer. I replaced Avast at the beginning of this summer with McAfee PAID version of LiveSafe.
I uninstalled it from the 'sick' computer via a link that McAfee support sent to me when I asked to COMPLETELY uninstall it from the computer. I uninstalled McAfee October 8, 2016 Service Request #: - Created Date: 14:19:36 - Description: I need to uninstall McAfee on one of my computers in order to reinstall or repair Windows 10.
Need to uninstall COMPLETELY 3. Paid version and current. I only uninstalled with the tool supplied by McAfee - THEN Windows Defender took over. The Malwarebytes had already been on my computer but only ran manually. I ran it to see if any malware was causing my problems. It found a few non-threatening types which were deleted.
No error codes - just goes in a loop - failed to install on then tries to reinstall over and over - been doing this forever. I tried a total Reset - keeping nothing - no go - each time it goes through the process - it stops and gives this message before returning to previous version. (0x8007001F - 0x2000D - the installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation) Not much left to do except format the drive totally of everything and try install from either USB or DVD copy, but not holding my breath for that either. Will try that later. I will have to boot from the install media - so I will try the USB method. If that doesn't work then I am taking a hammer to the box as it is useless now.
Seems to me that the very security products that are supposed to protect the computer are in and of themselves the problem as you seem to be indicating that they are the major concern. So what is the answer to virus protection? What should we be using?
They have become so complicated. I am tiring of this problem but will give it one more try.
The questions may look similar to ones I've asked previously but they're not the same questions. I replaced Avast at the beginning of this summer [2016] 3a. McAfee LiveSafe was uninstalled on October 8, 2016 3b. Yes, subscription was still current 3c. Yes, MBAM detected & quarantined a few things 5.
No error codes - just goes in a loop - failed to install on then tries to reinstall over and over - been doing this forever - but after doing a Reset, I get a 0x8007001F - 0x2000D error 6. [NO ANSWER] 1. When (exact date) did you do the Reset? When you did the Reset, did you select the 'erase data quickly' option or the 'erase data thoroughly' option? Is 'Version 10.0 Build 10240' still installed or.?
Have you 'reset Windows Updates' per since you did the Reset? Have you run the run the since you did the Reset? Is MBAM Premium or MBAM Free installed? When (exact date, preferably) was the last time MBAM detected & quarantined anything?
Are your MBAM Scan logs available should someone want to see them? [ ==================================================== DISCLAIMER: Posted AS IS with no guarantees. MS MVPs neither represent nor work for Microsoft. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) Microsoft MVP (Windows Client) since October 2002.
Well Robear, I have solved my problem - I saved my files that I wanted from the computer and have most of the programs that I can reinstall. I decided to do a clean install using the DVD iso which worked. The biggest problem in that process I had to solve was trying to get to the BIOS screen to change boot order. It took a while but if anyone wants to know - you have to turn off the 'fast boot' under power options. Under define what power buttons do click on 'change settings that are currently unavailable' and UNCHECK 'Turn on fast startup' Anyway the clean install went fine and all is working. Windows 10 is a nightmare to do things we used to do easily.
But I learned a lot in this process. After I get all the updates normally this time I will create a restore point. Thanks for trying to help.
HP has once again been forced to issue an emergency patch for its laptops after a driver-level keylogger was discovered by a security researcher. Michael Myng, aka 'ZwClose,' in the Synaptics Touchpad SynTP.sys keyboard driver, which is used in virtually all HP laptops, while he was trying to find a way of adjusting the backlighting. Although the keylogger is turned off by default, changing registry values could see it enabled, making it a target for malware programs such as Remote Access Trojans (RAT).
HP said the 'potential security vulnerability' is found in more than 460 of its laptop models, including those in the EliteBook, ProBook, Pavilion and Envy lines. The company has released a of affected devices, some of which date back to 2012. 'A potential security vulnerability has been identified with certain versions of Synaptics touchpad drivers that impacts all Synaptics OEM partners. A party would need administrative privileges in order to take advantage of the vulnerability.
Neither Synaptics nor HP has access to customer data as a result of this issue,' wrote HP, who said the keylogger was actually a debug trace. ZwClose says that a fix will also be issued as part of a Windows Update. It was back in May when HP had to for a keylogger discovered by Swiss firm modezero that was buried in the Conexant HD audio driver and distributed by the firm since at least Christmas 2015.
The company said the code had been mistakenly added to the software. Related Reads • • •.
